In Holland, the local traffic police would use the TomTom satellite navigation system to better position their cameras. A return is the Dutch newspaper Dagblad Agemeen which published the news in recent days. The system is simple and effective: TomTom can record all movements of motorists who use browsers.
Data are sourced from an intermediary company which in turn sells them to the police. At this point the police analyze the data to place detectors in the camera hot spots or those with more opportunities to "catch" those who travel beyond their limits. The news immediately stirred the hearts of motorists and consumer groups who cry invasion of privacy.
This is why TomTom is already running for cover, saying it will change the licenses to avoid similar situations.
