"Tyres under control" for safe holiday

Presented today "safe holiday 2011", an initiative proposed by tires under control and traffic police, in collaboration with Assogomma, the national association of manufacturers of tires, and Federpneus, the party in Italy which includes retailers. The three institutions will be involved, from 3 May, in an audit of the status of the tires of vehicles and to raise awareness about their importance for road safety.

Everything will be done in Liguria, Lazio and Sicily, where for a period of 2 months and half will be checked for wear these important "tools" for which - according to Roberto Sgalla, Director of Traffic Police - "there is still little consideration, low maintenance and few controls on the part of motorists.

" In this area, the data speak for themselves and were released by Fabio Bortolotti, Director of Assogomma: "The observations made in the past by the police show that in 8 to 10% of cases the tires were smooth in the 3 -10% were damaged and a significant amount were not even approved. " The main objective of the initiative is to raise awareness about the importance of the owner of a vehicle tire in order to have both as tread depth is such pressure in this regard, the data reveal that as many as 50% of vehicles traveling on the roads with more or less deflated tires.

The ultimate goal is always to eliminate as much as possible the causes of accidents on the roads and comply with EU directive requiring Member States to halve the number of deaths on the roads. The results from Italy are good, since we have moved from an altitude of 12,000 in 1972 to 4,200 fee in 2009, while in 2010 (official figures have yet to be announced) would be a further decline.

"But within a few years the EU is asking us to get under the 2000" concludes Robert Sgalla. And the initiative "Safe Holiday 2011" is included in this field. "Tyres under control" is the registered trademark of Assogomma Federpneus who for 10 years and characterized the activities of road safety and always works with the Traffic Police and institutions committed to reducing road accidents and to improve circulation and mobility.
