Mercedes C63 AMG DTM Safety Car

The new Mercedes C63 AMG Safety Car was chosen as the most exciting DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters), the league dedicated to automotive vehicles, "Tourism", organized in Germany, but with races at circuits across Europe. The Quattroporte Sport in configuration of Mercedes-Benz Safety Car was officially presented on 10 April in Wiesbaden, while its track debut is scheduled for Sunday May 1, during the first round of the DTM to be held on the track Hockenheim in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The version of the tip of the C-Class, equipped with the powerful 6.3-liter V8, has been chosen for its quality of handling and fast acceleration offered by the engine, chassis and suspension. The development and production of the Teutonic sedan configuration was assigned to the Safety Car AMG sports department who has worked closely with specialists from the AMG Performance Studio.

The use of the Safety Car is under the direct responsibility of the DMSB - Deutscher Motor Sport Bund, the German Association of Automobile Sports, which has the task of managing the competitions in total safety and implementing regulations to the letter all the official DTM . At the head of Mercedes Car Safaty there will be an experienced pilot Jürgen Kastenholz, 43, in case of emergency (extreme weather conditions, accidents or other incidents) will have the responsibility to lead with confidence all vehicles involved in the race, until end of any danger.

The Mercedes C63 AMG used for the 2011 season of DTM using the powerful 6.3-liter V8 engine from AMG nice, well capable of delivering 487 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The car develops some 30 hp more than the "standard" version because of the use of the sports kit AMG Performance Package, available as an option for all models C63 AMG.

With these numbers the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds, while the declination Estate employs only 4.4 seconds. The high-performance brake system has been optimized for use on the track: the 380 mm front brake discs are fitted with six-piston calipers and four-pistons at the rear, also all discs are internally ventilated and perforated.

To make the most of the delicate task of the Safety Car, the Teutonic sport was equipped with a sophisticated system of signaling lights and communication systems. The roof has been installed a system of orange lights from big visual impact, while the headlamps and rear lights with white that remain perpetually lit whenever the car takes to the track, they also have an additional feature of simple reporting .

Communications between the pilot and the organizers of the Safety Car is via a next-generation radio system.
