The new Opel Astra, more efficient

The new Opel Astra is available now with technology Stop / Start, providing greater efficiency in the versions where it is incorporated, which are the Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX engine and the Astra 2.0 CDTI engine. The stop / start system comes with the new Opel Astra, reducing the level of emissions and improving fuel consumption figures of one of the mainstays of the German mark.

The operation is similar to the same set of other brands, turning off the engine when we stopped in neutral and start again when we step on the clutch. However, the feeling that transmits the Stop / Start the Astra is smoother than the competition. The maximum time to stop this system amounts to five minutes, from multiple systems while the 'economy mode' and being disconnected from others as the heated rear window and heated mirrors.

The system Stop / Start the Opel Astra account, inter alia, with reinforced starter for the sake of reliability, battery absorbent glass mat high performance, intelligent control of the battery and a button called 'Eco' through which you can disable the stop / start system. This 2-liter engine with 160 hp and 35.71 Nm of torque is the first of the Astra range incorporating the stop / start system as standard.

This device is part of a series of efficient systems that christens Opel ecoFLEX Technology. This is an engine that is associated with a manual gearbox six speed front wheel drive. Achieved a gain of 0.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers compared to the conventional model, assuming a 13% reduction.

As far as emissions are concerned, down from 129 to 119 grams of CO2 per kilometer. With a 1.3 CDTI engine, the Opel Astra ecoFLEX 5p achieves a fuel consumption of 3.9 liters per 100 kilometers, viénndose reduced this figure to 0.2 liters. In terms of emissions is also seen a significant savings, ranging from 109 grams of CO2 per kilometer to 104 original.

The engine of this version of the new Astra is rated at 95 hp with maximum torque of 19.39 Nm, and using a multiple injection system common rail operates at a pressure of 1,600 bar and a variable geometry turbocharger . The engine is mated to a five-speed manual speeds. In addition, Opel has also worked on the aerodynamic section Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX, this being visible in a close working active airflow installed on the front grille.

This is fully opened to allow air into the engine compartment at low speeds and is closing with increasing vehicle speed to the flow of air in front of the vehicle is softer. This system is complemented by various aerodynamic improvements to the underside of the car.
