Autocar has collected important confirmation on the future of the new BMW M5 and the availability of a version with four-wheel drive. The new German supercar will certainly not declined in a setting with long wheelbase, the body specifically for the Chinese market, but the 4WD version has been considered from the outset in the design phase: the system could take the pattern of XDrive and x5m X6M , but combined with the new 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox instead of the automatic converter with two SUVs.
During the presentation of the M5 concept at the show in Shanghai have leaked some technical data: the twin-turbo 4.4 V8 delivers 560 hp and 690 Nm of torque, even if you do not know the official performance. The M5 F10 final debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with minimal changes compared to the concept, but it remains a fundamental question: the ability to offer rear-wheel drive or full versions is unusual for motor racing cars and then we will assume to differentiate the models.
XDrive version could offer even more power, maybe with that KERS system which was previously taken for granted to exceed a height of 600 hp, or it could be rear-wheel drive version to be more "extreme" with special attention to the weight and equipment , leaving the 4WD as flagship super sports car.
