The number of highway construction sites in the past four weeks from 360 to 69 to 429 and thus rose by more than 19 percent. As the Auto Club Europa (ACE) today reported, are being renewed for a total distance of more than 1523 kilometers of the tracks and expanded. Just under a year (mid-May 2010) the number of highway construction was according to the club with 498 but still higher than today.
To develop the narrows in the area of highway construction sites are taken together every day more than 300 kilometers of traffic jams, estimates of the ACE. For the year, the expected traffic jams caused by construction sites are therefore a total of some 110 000 kilometers. The share of construction sites of the entire highway network is currently - both carriageways included - 6.2 percent (mid-May 2010 there were 7.1 per cent).
The construction activity is most affected the A40 motorway in both directions. The 94-kilometer highway is charged to 80 percent with construction sites. Drivers is only a about 15.3 kilometer route without building sites. (Ampnet / jri)
