New Fiat Panda 2012: small city cars grow

How will be the new Fiat Panda 2012? After renderings leaked in recent months, these days are more dense the rumors on the lines of the future five-door supermini, Fiat. More or less official, all contribute to give an idea about the Panda 2012. The "deep throats" of the Lingotto indicate that its size will be slightly higher than at present.

As for the mechanics, it was announced in part as a "directly derived" from the Lancia Ypsilon. Less small city car, a little more voluminous, they said. In fact, the Fiat Panda 2012, waiting for the next month, promises to size "plus" compared to the models currently in list. The car, which - as we had anticipated in recent days - for the official premiere will be on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 (September 15 to 25),  promises to be a little longer: about 3.64 meters, which is 10 cm more as compared with the current model.

This feature is due to the fact that will share the platform with the new Lancia Ypsilon.New mechanics are announced: the 69 hp 1.2 petrol, the turbodiesel 1.3 Multijet (75 and 95 hp) are added to the two recent TwinAir 65 and 900 cc 85 hp. A new look at the car body: The Panda 2012 promises to be characterized by being more elaborate: no more "marked" lines, but more space to fantasy and rounder, especially in the front. An innovative design for the wheel too, a little wider.

Curiously, it seems that the design (if it ever will be confirmed) will have some features of the new Fiat Uno Brazil, evident especially in the front (with vertical slits, another legacy of the past: it recalls ideally, in fact, the first Pandas, the 30 and 45, which debuted in 1980). The Panda 2012 is a candidate, therefore, to support a dual role: city car, and at the same time, unique car for young families.

It is too soon to make further assumptions about the choice of style taken from the Lingotto and the engines that will accompany the third series of the Panda. It is, however, evident that the new generation of Turin's city car will "collide" with models that, in recent years, have applied the philosophy of maximum capacity with ultra-compact exterior dimensions: Citroen C1, Chevrolet Spark, Kia Picanto (whose new series debuted recently), Opel Corsa, Peugeot 107, Toyota Yaris.
