Volkswagen prepares the car with the auto-pilot

The innovative project led by the Wolfsburg takes its name from TAP and has been implemented under the project funded by the European Community called HAVEit ("Highly Automated Vehicles for Intelligent Transport") and directed by Professor Jürgen Leohold, executive director for the Looking for a German manufacturer.

Apparently identical to an ordinary wagon, this car hides three laser sensors, one positioned in the front and two behind, which act as intelligent electronic eyes are capable of transmitting images of the road to a sophisticated on-board computer which in turn "talk "with a GPS inside the car.

Once we receive the information by transmitting the navigator reworks the image of the car and those around her in a radius of just over 180 yards, including of course any obstacles. In this way, TAP is now able to "read" the signals and to stop it is to stop at red lights, even to avoid parked cars, jaywalkers or animals crossing the road suddenly, as if the path is free from obstacles, the car accelerates and continues without hesitation.

In fact, VW aims to eliminate the figure of the driver, now deeply rooted in our culture and our way of being, but it wants a real help to the pilot when he needed it: because the system allows the driver to TAP act on the guide at any time you want, but if you are tired or do not want to just drive, just push a button to enter the auto-pilot, taking off in this way, the thought of driving.

What's more, there is also the possibility to activate a semi-automatic driving called "Pilot Mode", which helps the driver maintain a safe distance from the right vehicle in front, the speed set by the driver, of course where possible in case of necessity because the system automatically reduces the speed - the first example of a curve - and keeps the vehicle's position with respect to the centerline.

The TAP device detects even the overtaking rules and speed limits.
