Opel Astra reduces CO2 emissions to 99 grams

Vauxhall has reduced the consumption of the Astra 1.7 CDTI to 3.7 liters of diesel and therefore the CO2 emissions of 99 grams per kilometer. The labeled with the additional designation Ecoflex fuel-efficient version of the compact model, yet provides 96 kW / 130 hp and 300 Nm of torque between 2000 and 2500 revolutions per minute tours.

It is shifted with a friction-reduced six-speed gearshift recommendation. The prices of the five-door model will be announced to the market launch in autumn. The measures to reduce fuel consumption include the drive system including efficient heat management, start / stop technology and brake energy regeneration as well as aerodynamic components and the reduction in rolling resistance.

She uses the Opel Astra 1.7 CDTI Ecoflex in section 0.8 liters less and emits 20 grams less CO2 per kilometer than the basic model. The engine of the Ecoflex combines a reduced compression ratio with a new multi-injection technology, which makes bar at operating pressures of 1800 up to eight injections per cycle.

This improves the combustion process and reduces consumption. Also contributes to a new turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, which has, thanks to an additional actuator-sensor, a very precise boost control. A modified Hubkolbensystem impacts due to reduced friction also has a positive impact on fuel consumption.

To further reduce friction and thus wear all rotating engine parts, a synthetic diamond coating of plungers and piston pins contribute as much as optimum friction piston rings. A weight saving plastic intake manifold made shall, together with an electronically controlled, variable mixture preparation for efficient combustion.

Cylinder pressure sensors in the glow plugs ("cleantech Combustion Technology") allow an extremely precise combustion control, so that the combustion center point always lies on a clearly defined position on the crankshaft. At the same time relieve Niederspannungsglühkerzen the alternator during cold starts.

To accelerate the warming up of the engine also reduces an oil cooler bypass valve (oil cooler bypass) the pressure loss. This also saves fuel when the temperature inside the unit is achieved more quickly. For a temperature balance economic variable water pump is responsible. This is an electronically controlled exhaust gas recirculation comes with additional cooling function for the benefit of an optimal process for low-emission combustion temperature levels.

In addition, this reduces the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The optimized platinum coating of the primary and main catalytic converter and the location near the engine to bring the exhaust gas purification system to operating temperature more quickly and thus increase the efficiency. To improve aerodynamics, the Astra Ecoflex has a built-in grill active air control system.

While at low speed or high thermal loads of the unit as on hills and when towing a trailer in favor of a healthy motor torque climate prevails, the blades close automatically when the speed increases and direct the airflow around the car. It is more streamlining, consumes less fuel and emits less CO2.

In addition, the car has a twelve mm lowered chassis. Conti Eco Contact-5-tires in size 215/60 R 16 and 215/50 R 17 with low rolling resistance also contribute to reducing fuel consumption.
