Mazda MX-5 in the British GT Endurance 2011

Small is good, but a true blend of sport. Mazda plans to throw down the gauntlet to cars including Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus and BMW, with his last creation, the MX-5 GT that will debut this year at the British Endurance Championship (MSA). A confrontation is looming fascinating, looking at the technical details of this car that has a feather weight of only 850 kg compared with an engine capable of delivering 275 hp.

Numbers that allow it to "splatter" from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3 seconds flat for a maximum speed of 260 km / h. As anticipated value added, subtracted or better in this case, is the weight. Jota Sport's engineers in fact, with the task of working on the car, looked at every detail to eliminate unnecessary components that would have burdened the body, starting with the dashboard and side panels replaced with materials made from carbon and polycarbonate windscreen.

Instead you have added additional tubular frame to increase stability of the car, improving torsional rigidity in the sudden changes of direction typical of racing on the track. Many also work on the suspension is completely revised, transmission (it was introduced a 6-speed sequential gearbox), and an engine that not only have been enhanced has been placed lower down to reduce the center of gravity and increase stability.

The British Endurance Championship 2011 consists of nine tracks from March to November - the first race will take place at Silverstone on 26 March - including a race at the famous circuit of Spa Francorchamps, Belgium. At the wheel there will be drivers Mark Ticehurst, West Sussex and the pilot-in Auto Express journalist Owen Mildenhall.

Mazda has recently celebrated the 21th anniversary of the MX-5 produced 900 thousand units globally (debuted in 1989). To date, among other preserves the primacy of the longest running and roadster valued by motorists all over the world (Guinness World Records).
