Opel Corsa 2011: our road test

Opel presented the Corsa 2011 in Florence, with a renewed aesthetic restyling concentrated mainly in the front. Improvements have been extended to the preparations and the standard accessories, while changes to the range and power units had already been introduced in model year 2010. The only exception is the focal point of the press, is the newly revised version Ecoflex: already proposed from 2008 to 2011, the model more sensitive to fuel the engine gained 95 hp 1.3 diesel versions and the system Start-Stop last generation, resulting in record levels of approval ie an average of 3.5 l/100 km with 94 g / km of CO2.

Founded in 1982, the Corsa has exceeded 11 million vehicles sold in total and the current generation has sold fewer than 2 million copies, about 250,000 in the Italian market, where the compact segment, the busy B occupy 34% of the market . The preference for the Italian market is the 5-door version, chosen by 65% of customers who will benefit in 2011 on a very aggressive trade policy for a model, including petrol and diesel engines, offers well over 5 7 various productions.

To launch the model year 2011, stroke has remade the look of pointing to the family feeling and the more recent models such as Insignia Meriva, hence the introduction of new headlights, revised air intakes and grille of the new design, the elements designed for add a dash of sportiness to the car but also to give a touch of "premium" to the whole, to use the words of the responsible Designer Niels Loeb.

The changes are extended to all trim levels, including the sporty OPC riununcia not already seen the bumper on the previous model, integrating the new lights. To expand the possibilities for customization then we think the B-Color with alloy wheels and black painted roof and accessories "line pack" with the colors black or white, used alloy wheels, mirrors and stripes on the hood, combined in colorful details the interior.

Just the interior has been renovated with the introduction of new colors, fabrics for the seats, both finishes. The set-up B-Color, among other things, offers profiles rather bright interior colors, combined with new color offerings for the bodywork. For the rest of the interior offers the same content as the 2010 model year.

The most obvious change is linked to the introduction of new multimedia system with Connect Touch & sat nav, bluetooth, USB and iPod, but rather complete positioned lower than the principal field of vision. Sitting in the driver's seat, in fact, the most visible display of the onboard computer is located in the center of the dashboard, the upper section, which also lists the data for the air conditioning system.

The navigator, with its rather small buttons that require a minimum of training, is much lower and inevitably requires a moment of distraction to be operated, at least until you have memorized the locations of commands. No note on the seats and walls, rising construction that offer more attractive solutions, from robust materials basic to the OPC Recaro leather.

For our impressions we have chosen to guide the renewed ecoFLEX model, probably the most suitable for a stroll in the traffic of Florence. Opel is focusing on this variant of the strong success of its predecessor: where they offer special versions of much more expensive than basic models, sold in less than 5% of the total, the Corsa Ecoflex has been chosen by 24% of clients and is offered in 2011 with a difference of 700 euros compared to standard diesel model with comparable equipment.

The first contact with the Corsa is positive, thanks to the good adjustment of seat and steering wheel that also accommodate tall people, while putting into motion reveals a higher noise level than expected. This element will accompany the test along with a sound a bit 'too intrusive during acceleration, stopped in traffic dall'irreprensibile operation of StartStop.

The system performs a series of checks to ensure comfort and safety for the occupants before turning off the engine, as long as the driver presses the clutch and put the transmission in neutral, behavior that we are not always used to take. Once in tune with the system, if they appreciate the benefits, especially because the next switch is activated and fast when you press the clutch to shift into gear, without causing delays.

In heavy traffic the Ecoflex moves well, especially thanks to the pair of the new Euro 5 95 hp 1.3 diesel, much more dense in the previous 75 hp and is available from low revs. Steering wheel, pedals and gear stand out for their lightness, while the structure with low-friction tires 15 "turns out to be a bit 'hard on short disconnections.

The secret of success of Race, however, is the immediacy with which you become more familiar with the car, which offers a good overall comfort, excellent visibility and a spacious interior than in the front. Difficult, in our brief tour, test the quality of official data on consumption record of Ecoflex.

Opel's engineers have shown, however, to have reduced consumption by 22% compared to the Ecoflex 2008, with a power increase of 27%. The 2011 Opel Corsa 1.0 is offered with petrol engines Twinport 65 HP (5.0 l/100 km), 1.2 Twinport 85 hp (5.3 l/100 km), 1.4 100 hp (5.5 l/100 km) and OPC 192 hp 1.6 Turbo (7.3 l/100 km), while the diesel version is available in 75 hp 1.3 CDTI FAP (4.2 l/100 km), FAP 95 hp 1.3 CDTI (4.4 l/100 km and also with Ecoflex StartStop from 3.5 l/100 km) and 1.7 CDTI 130 hp (4.5 l/100 km).

The only bifuel price list is the 1.2 85 bhp LPG Tech, to be delivered by May 2011. Available in three five-door, the Corsa is offered in the 2011 Club productions, elective, Cosmo, B-Color (3 door only) and OPC (3 door only) with 5-speed manual transmission (6 ratios only for 1.3 CDTI 95 hp, 1.7 CDTI 130 hp and OPC).

The 85 hp version 1.2 can also be ordered with the automated Easytronic 5-speed, 100 hp while the 1.4 can have an optional 4-speed automatic transmission with torque converter. The 1.0 65 HP touches 155 km / h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 18.2 seconds, while the 1.2 65 HP states respectively 160 km / h and 14.5 seconds.

180 km / h and 11.9 seconds for the 1.4 100 hp, while obviously the OPC 192 hp mark is the best data in the range, with 225 km / h 7.2 seconds. Among the diesel, the 1.3 CDTI 75 Hp states respectively 163 km / h and 14.9 seconds, while the 1.3 score is 95 hp 177 km / h and 12.3 seconds.

The top shelf of the diesel 1.7 CDTI 130 hp says 200 km / h 9.5 seconds. + + Version was successful restyling Ecoflex engine with 95 hp + wide range of customizations - 1.3 CDTI noise - there is no small statement in the turbo range - multimedia system positioned below the dashboard
