Range_e: diesel hybrid in Geneva Land Rover

Another interesting world premiere was presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 from the Land Rover brand. It is the Range_e equipped with an advanced diesel hybrid plug-in that Land Rover will be available on future production models, following the launch of its diesel-electric hybrid in 2013. The Range_e is based on the Range Rover Sport and features the 3.0 liter TDV6 engine from 245 hp coupled to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor 69 kW.

The parallel hybrid system - which uses a lithium-ion battery from 14.2 kW / h rechargeable external 240-volt outlet - it allows the Range_e to use the electric propulsion alone for about 32 km. A full recharge can be made in about four hours. The car manufacturers say that the path to a daily average European motorist does not exceed 40 km.

Land Rover also added that "with the autonomy offered by electric propulsion technology is sufficient to cover most of the usual city driving, where fuel consumption and emissions are of the utmost importance." With emissions not exceed 89 g / km, Range_e boasts a maximum power of 339 hp and a top speed of 193 km / h, with a consumption of 3.36 litres/100 km.

The Range_e is also designed with the same capacity in a standard 4x4 Range Rover Sport, with two transmission ranges and two-speed differentials, front and rear, plus a lockable center differential mechanically. Depending on what is required by the driver, the car decides which is the most efficient system to deliver the desired power: electric, diesel or mixed.

Range_e is mounted on the regenerative braking system with energy recovery, then re-used for the propulsion of the vehicle. The Range_e has received the support of the Government's Technology Strategy Board (British government institution that promotes technological progress), and five prototypes are currently engaged in a test program with the technicians of the consortium Cabled - Coventry and Birmingham Low Emissions Demonstrators (consortium the West Midlands for the development of electric vehicles).

The Land Rover expects its hybrid plug-in can be marketed in the near future, after the launch of its first hybrid diesel-electric series, in 2013.
