Volkswagen XL1: The city car Bugatti customer?

This video tells MotorTrend an exclusive road test of the XL1 the concept, prototype plug-in hybrid city car presented at the Motor Show Qatar. Beyond the technical content and feelings, is the last sentence to open an interesting perspective: Volkswagen wants to produce this car in a limited series, to show the car from 0.9 l/100 km exists, but the use carbon fiber and the latest technologies to make the car very expensive here so that the hypothesis is to propose the XL1 with the Bugatti brand as cutting edge as the VAG group and "tender" for customers of forced Veyron to use other "vulgar" cars for the movement of people every day.

Hypothesis attractive, but very similar to the one just randomly put in place by Aston Martin, with the Cygnet that created the ultra-luxury city car for your loyal customers. Regardless of the logo will be placed on the hood of the XL1, the prototype has the technical content of the first order: The car is 3.88 meters long, 1.66 wide and 1.15 high and thanks to carbon fiber the total weight is only 795 kg, with a Cd of 0186.

The plug-in hybrid system consists of an endothermic Euro6 800cc twin-cylinder turbodiesel, 48 bhp and 120 Nm of torque and an electric motor, 27 hp and up to 100 Nm, combined with the 7-speed DSG transmission. The car can travel 35 km with the batteries alone, reaches 160 km / h and accelerates from 0 to self-limited 100 km / h in less than 12 seconds by combining the power of all engines.

On the road, in fact, the car looks brilliant and the only foresight is to get used to not power-assisted steering and brakes. Although the structure is rather rigid and sports, as opposed to tires designed primarily for smoothness rather than to the total grip.
