Audi supports "pole-to-Pole" expedition

Johan Ernst Nilson broke yesterday on his "Pole2Pole" expedition. Within twelve months he will completely carbon-neutral travel from North to the South Pole, that is driven only by natural forces. With technologies and know-how he stood in the preparations for Audi page: Nilson his equipment tested under extreme conditions in the wind tunnel of the car manufacturer and in the cold chamber in Ingolstadt.

In addition, Audi's engineers supported the development of its ultra-light sled. The lightweight construction is an area of expertise of Audi. Particularly lightweight materials reduce the weight of the car and thus the consumption. The same technology has now found application in the development of an innovative slider, which will accompany Johan Ernst Nilson in his last and probably most difficult stage of the expedition - the crossing of the Antarctic.

With him, the Swede will carry his equipment. To glide with maximum speed over ice and snow, the sleigh to be particularly easy. Leave it to the special carbon-fiber construction. This is both durable and functional enough to survive in hostile conditions. Also reduced to the minimum friction is required to get well on the rough ice ahead.

To ensure that the equipment survives ice, snow and high wind speeds, Johan Ernst Nilson has clothes, tent and sleeping bag in the cold chamber and in the Audi wind tunnel tested. Both simulated arctic conditions, because usually this is the winter hardiness of the Ingolstadt cars tested.

travel also on his tour through North, Central and South America, the Nilson bicycle is supported Audi Sweden: The Expedition car transport, an Audi Q5, a film crew and reporters who follow Nilson's progress. A full year will take the expedition. Sections of the trip, which can not be completed without using engine power to be compensated for air-to make the whole expedition CO2-neutral.
