Fiat 500 EV: even if you make a loss

At the Detroit Motor Show in January, the Chrysler Group presented the prototype of the Fiat 500 EV or BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) which will be launched in the U.S. market since 2012. In Europe, however, will not arrive before 2013. Sergio Marchionne, however, reported that on each copy sold of this model works well will lose $ 10,000.

The calculations are made soon, the cost of each would amount to about 500 EV 45 thousand dollars, but for obvious reasons the market selling price must not exceed 32 thousand dollars. A lot of money compared to 15,500 that are used to buy a Fiat 500 with a conventional engine in the States.

Here, then, the net loss of at least 10 thousand dollars per machine caused by the high cost that still have the batteries. But the operation will also be 500 BEV. Meanwhile, the models produced will be few, and relatively small losses. Secondly, Chrysler should start to move seriously on the field of sustainable mobility.

A strategy that is technological and technical evidence but also image. Finally, the 500 BEV serve to considerably lower the average emissions of CO2 from cars from the Italian-American group.
