Haul of awards at home to the Fiat Group, "International Engine of the Year 2011": 4 awards for the engine of Fiat Powertrain TwinAir and two titles for the V8 engine in the Ferrari 458 Italy. But first things first. The Turin-twin was rated by a jury of 76 journalists and industry experts from 36 countries, as the best in its category of displacement (under 1000 cm3) and broke it also voted "International Engine of the Year 2011" , giving it the highest award provided by the event.
The Twin Fiat Powertrain has also won awards for "Best New Engine 2011" and "2011 Best Green Engine". Currently available in 85 hp turbo setup on Fiat 500/500C and, soon, the new Lancia Ypsilon, the Twin will soon be introduced in 65 bhp aspirated version. But there will also be a variant of High Performance Turbo 105 bhp, and a bi-fuel from 80.
Satisfaction of Fiat SpA also flocked to the awards in Maranello: Ferrari 458 V8 4.5 of Italy won the award for best engine performance and the best engine with capacity of more than 4 L. The jury also expressed particular appreciation for the vocal ability of that unit. For the latter quality was also honored by readers of Autoblog.
Please note that the engine of Italy 458 is capable of reaching speeds up to 9000 rpm with a compression ratio of 12.5:1 and a maximum power of 570 hp. The specific power of 127 hp / L, the highest value reached by a car "sucked" series. Also impressive maximum torque of 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm, of which 80% already from 3250 rpm.
The specific torque of 120 Nm / L, another record for a road with atmospheric engine.
