Fiat: 6 to 9 novelties are produced abroad

It makes sense to consider an Italian company Fiat yet? This provocative question leads us to analyze the corporate structure and the range available today. Well, if you look at the name and management, the answer is yes, Fiat is Italian again. But if you look at where the models are produced, the affirmative answer is less obvious.

Between this year and next, 6 of 9 new proposals from the Lingotto (Fiat, Alfa and Lancia) are assembled abroad, to take advantage of lower costs, to have fewer clashes with the unions or to produce in the region where it is believed that the cars have the largest market. Situation which is a global manufacturer of Fiat, but inevitably less Italian.

The new Lancia Ypsilon 2011 was born in Tychy, Poland, where it was already assembled the Fiat Panda, which will instead be produced from 2012 to Pomigliano as per the agreement of 2010. The latest Fiat Freemont is built in Toluca, Mexico (where it already assembles the "sister" Dodge Journey).

In the same year the factory began production of the Fiat 500 located in North America, while Europe will continue to be marketed in assembled Tichy. Will come from Canada, the Ontario, the new Lancia Lancia Thema and Voyager, which will be ready in October. Serbia will come from the template LO drive was initially scheduled to Mirafiori.

The Flavia (on a Chrysler 200) instead born in the U.S. state of Michigan. The only new models that speak Italian, in addition to the aforementioned 2012 Fiat Panda, will be the Alfa Romeo SUV and the Jeep SUV that will be produced at the Mirafiori plant in compliance with the agreements with the unions.

Then there is the possibility that Sergio Marchionne also other ports elsewhere Fiat plant "to avoid delays, strikes and appeals to the courts" as stated by the same CEO. And it is this last point that most "hot" as in a few days to open in Turin on due process centered on the union Fiom filed against Newco Pomigliano and Mirafiori, which could be considered unlawful.

Meanwhile the factory on the outskirts of Naples is preparing to "bake" the Panda 2012, which will be on sale by next winter.
