Ford EcoBoost 3-cylinder 100 hp from the Millin

Three-cylinder just a liter of displacement. But the performance will be comparable to those of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. These are the promises of the house after Ford announced that the development of new, small engine is almost at an end. EcoBoost will be part of the family and should make its official appearance already at the next Frankfurt Motor Show 2011.

In reality, however, had already seen in Beijing in 2010 on the concept car Start and Geneva this year on the small B-Max. The unit is equipped with a 1 liter direct injection system, turbocharger and dual overhead camshafts with variable valve timing independent - characteristics common to other 1600 and 2000 EcoBoost - to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Among other features stand out the crankshaft offset on the vertical axis of the cylinders (to reduce vibration and friction) and the cooling system that allows you to split the cylinder block to warm up before the head making it cleaner emissions during heating, the most critical for the production of CO2.

Finally there is the exhaust manifold integrated into the same head, a solution that lowers the temperature of exhaust gases and saves weight, run more smoothly in the engine and optimizes the relationship between air and fuel in a wider arc regime. In Frankfurt is also expected in the Fiesta restyling, another model that, together with the B-Max for future production, definitely take the little 3-cylinder that could show off power to around 100 hp.
