Audi Urban Mobility: The Future of Security

In Geneva, the Audi TTS has reached the stage of the Volkswagen Group Night Event: but the peculiar thing is that there was nobody behind the wheel. This special version is the result of the Urban Mobility project that Audi wants to show how a car can safely carry out operations without the driver. The project is conducted at the Volkswagen Group Automotive Innovation Laboratory (VAIL) in Palo Alto (California), with the participation of the Volkswagen Group's Electronics Research Laboratory (ERL) and Stanford University.

The purpose of this car is the laboratory study and evaluation of current and future driver assistance systems technology to improve security in the future. The vehicle on which they were applied to test the technologies in the sound Urban Mobility is based on a normal TTS: This model was chosen because the standard technologies, such as the throttle by wire and the speed S tronic double clutch, are already suitable electronic interface that makes it possible to drive without any human intervention.

In this special TTS are installed two computers located in the luggage compartment, which is concerned with the use of the vehicle. The first takes into account the security-related algorithms, the other follows the dynamic algorithms. The latter allows the TTS to respond appropriately to changes in speed and in different conditions.

The differential GPS mounted on board allows you to keep your car in no more than 2 inches from the ideal centerline.
