The proto-SUV Minage Mazda debuted world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 as an expression of new technologies and new design Kodo Skyactiv the manufacturer. Features that you will see the next generation of Mazda cars, but that had already been popular on the previous concept Shinara. As the second concept car to take the new Mazda design language of "Kodo - The Soul Movement", the Minage challenges convention with its emotional design and performance at high level.
"We wanted to convey something different than the Mazda Shinara - said Masashi Nakayama, chief designer of Minage - and we realized that a compact crossover SUV was the perfect vehicle to deliver agility and pure movement: flexibility of the four legs that move to 'unison and upright posture.
" In Japanese, the name Minage evokes the image of an object full of pulsating energy and reflects perfectly the speed, agility and vigorous temperament of the vehicle. For the car, the Mazda designers have considered different aspects of the cheetah when I'm hunting. The head of a cheetah is in a high position, while the long, powerful and agile legs will keep the trunk erect to enable it to quickly change direction at high speed.
Mazda designers have set out to evoke the moment when an animal contracts its muscles, ready to spring and pounce on its prey. Furthermore, this leap can occur in any direction, an idea that is perfectly suited to the role of an agile SUV crossover when it moves in the cityscape. Overall, Minage shows the pillars reaching for the rear emphasizing the orientation of the car facing backward.
The position of the passenger than the lower body is more backward than conventional SUVs, and this highlights the movement expressed by the shape of Minage. The front is strong, with the angle of the front grille slightly downwards as opposed to the design of the headlamps tilted upward.
The profiles of the bumper are very dynamic. The lines carved along the sides accentuate the feeling of power and flexibility. Mazda designers have set out to create a driver-oriented cockpit and a cabin able to give a reassuring level of strength and solidity. For the interior were used premium materials, joints and finishes almost accurate and craft manufacturing.
Characteristics that make the interior a refined and high quality. The color black is used predominantly and is highlighted with red on the rear seat backs and on the bottom of the door armrests. Four struts Chrome and satin seem to support the instrument panel. Everyone is facing an image of vertical force that seems to defy gravity, emphasizing the impression that the occupants of Minage are perfectly safe and well protected.
The design of the instrument panel and the various controls and emphasize the friendly nature of the sport's seat. As far as technology Skyactiv Mazda, one can cite the gasoline engine with direct injection Skyactiv-G and-D diesel engine Skyactiv which drastically reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions, while the six-speed automatic transmission and SkyactivDrive the manual-MT Skyactiv improve performance, fuel consumption and the feeling of motion.
SkyactivBody The body is light, rigid and safer, while the Skyactiv-frame chassis is lightweight and will be adopted in future for the next generation. All of these technologies will improve by 30% the average fuel economy of Mazda vehicles sold globally, which is equivalent to a 23% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 2015 (compared to 2008).
