Volkswagen: Porsche engines for the Alfa Romeo's future?

The anticipation spread from Autocar certainly upset many fans, but it seems to outline a future at least "credible" Volkswagen is interested in Alfa Romeo, as now we have often repeated, but in his plans there is also the intent to exploit the recent acquisition of Porsche to create a truly explosive mix.

The sport of snake it could be equipped with engines designed by Porsche and the first example of this incredible marriage of interest could be due to the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer turbo and currently under development for the baby Boxster. The same engine, we know, is at the heart of many advances and could end up in cars from other brands in the VAG group such as Audi, Seat and Skoda, but Alfa Romeo had the air of nostalgia for an operation, when the boxer was the unmistakable soundtrack Alfasud and 33.

Someone has already gone further, imagining a hypothetical 4C coupe with carbon fiber shell (perhaps a bit 'more like that of the Volkswagen Dallara Bluesport than to that ...) and Porsche boxer engine, which according Piech in the hands of VAG to sell a lot of more than the potential of the Alfa Romeo, as ably stated in Geneva in the ongoing "spat" with Marchionne.

Beyond the possible "neologism" Alfa Romeo Porsche, not be a case for the German the first time as a supplier of engines: in 1984, n fact, the arrival of the first round of the Seat Ibiza was just embellished by a range of unpublished engines called "System Porsche" and engineered from the house of Zuffenhausen.

Who knows what effect it might do in a few years, open the hood of a Germanic Alfa Romeo now finding the Porsche logo on the end ...

  1. I'm not happy about the prospect of VW buying Alfa one little bit. Germans make machines, Italians make dreams and have a heart, not just a pulse.
