Ford: diet chocolate for the new Focus

Have in common chocolate and weight loss? Apparently, nothing. Going to see if Ford did, however, we understand that there is something similar, since the company's engineers were inspired by the Michigan Nestle Aero bars to produce components for its vehicles, making them particularly light without affecting their strength.

The technology is called MuCell and is not particularly new, as was experienced a decade ago by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology: bubbles of nitrogen gas are mixed with the plastic parts (during the mold) with the effect of creating products lighter than 20%, while at the same volume and the same resistance to impact.

Not to mention that it uses less plastic, which saves on equipment and during disposal of the vehicle. The first Ford cars to be equipped with this system will be the new Focus, the marketing of which is expected later this year. The goal by 2020 is to spread this system, even on other cars in it, which would be suffered in weight loss between 100 and 300 kg, can compensate for the weight gain that vehicles today are undergoing a because of technology and equipment on board.
