Interesting news coming under the hood of the Audi A6 renewed. The manufacturer has submitted the Ingolstadt brand new turbo diesel engine 3.0 TDI V6 Biturbo, credited with 313 hp and 650 Nm of torque. The introduction of the new unit confirms the trend to downsizing: the new Audi will say goodbye to the V8 and V12 turbodiesel, in the name of greater attention to consumption and pollutant emissions.
We return to the new engine: as the historical rival BMW, Audi has opted for a twin-turbo system to match the 3.0 TDI engine in practice there will be a low-pressure turbine of the small size required for the supply of air at low speeds, while the second - with a larger diameter - will operate the tachometer climb upward.
Reading the data declared by the German manufacturer, combined with the new 3.0 TDI Biturbo Quattro all-wheel drive offers outstanding performance: acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is covered in just 5.3 seconds, compared with a consumption of 6.4 liters of diesel per 100 km and carbon dioxide emissions equal to 169 g / km.
To fully understand the qualities of the new engine is enough to compare with the 4.2 TDI with 350 horsepower mounted sull'ammiraglia A8: 8-cylinder unit stopped the clock to 5.7 seconds in the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h, emitting 204 g / km CO2. Initially available on the new A6 and A7, the engine developed by Audi will be available in a version powered by 350 horses, from 2012, combined with the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera.
Now we have to wait for the first track test to find out the real potential of the new engine: who will win between the new Audi A6 3.0 TDI and BMW 535d biturbo?
