Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo Touring, a wagon to 303 km / h

A little less than one year of the new BMW 5 Series Touring (which took place last spring at the Leipzig Fair), the Alpine town independent partner of Monaco of Bavaria, which sells more sporting versions on some BMW models at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 will debut at the B5 Touring Bi-Turbo Switch-Tronic, declination extreme sports (as in traditional Alpine) BMW 5 Series estate.

The stylistic imprint resumes Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo presented last year at the Goodwood Festival. Like the sedan, the Touring variant shows a stylish body kit, which cleverly blends dynamism and sophistication, without appearing too ostentatious: you notice a large "apron" front, broken by a large air intake fitted with a spoiler and horizontal, the " skirts "side and a molding that runs through the belt line.

The rear bumper is slightly modified: the Alpina B5 Touring Bi-Turbo incorporates two twin tailpipes. The structure, provided the Variable Damper Control system, electronically controlled adjustable through four modes: Normal, Comfort, Sport and Sport +. The rims used are well-known multi-spoke design to the Alpine Classic, 20.

"From the technical details in these days by the same branched Alpina, the mechanism is already present on the same Bi-Turbo B5. Or: V8 4.4-liter engine (which comes from the units already installed on the BMW 7 Series, X5, X6 and Series 5), with power increased to 507 hp and 700 Nm of torque.

The performance, given the larger, slightly lower than the B5 sedan, but still able to compete with the GT on the market: top speed of 303 km / h, acceleration from 0 to 100 in 4 "8. Unity is made entirely of aluminum, has direct injection and variable valve timing system to BMW's patented Double VANOS.

The engine, reviewed by technical Alpina is supercharged by two turbochargers - one for each of the two cylinder banks - operating in parallel, the performance of the two turbos are optimized through the use of a larger intercooler. Alpina complete the work of processing high-performance pistons, specially developed in collaboration with Mahle, and a new exhaust system, designed Alpina from scratch and Honeywell-Garrett.

The exchange rate used is the Switch-Tronic automatic 8-speed, developed in collaboration with ZF. The Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo Touring goes on sale from € 99,000.
