Audi R8 NF: the new generation will be lighter

Audi would develop an extremely lightweight version of the R8, called NF: apparently we are not faced with a new variant of supercoupè German (with the GT still fresh debut) as the first taste of the new model generation. The manufacturer makes no secret of wanting to implement their know-how on the construction of composite materials: the ultimate target is to reduce drastically the masses into play to ensure superior performance and lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Read the info that was obtained during a presentation took place in Neckersulm about the development of new technologies: it seems that the new R8 will be equipped with a central cell (probably made in CFRP) with attached two frames for front, rear and engine mounts. A very similar to what we saw on Aventador.

Moreover, the two cars are in the same group. And the R8 will come to life even the new Gallardo, which can not help but borrow many technologies from the LP700-4. But it will still be many components made of composite (such as fascia). The house is currently testing the behavior of these materials in the crash test, and the results are very promising.

In this presentation has also been shown a prototype of the R8 with numerous body parts made of composite car (pictured): its weight is 20% lower than the standard model. And this is certainly a good omen. The market launch of the new R8 is scheduled for 2014.
