EuroNCAP: 4 stars for electrical PSA, 3 for Dacia Duster

Even electric cars are subjected to Tester NCAP. The New Car Assessment Programme, in the first round of testing in 2011, made known these days for the first time has included models with zero emissions. The debut is touched to the joint I-MiEV Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Citroen C-Zero ion, or 3.40 meters from the city cars and four-door, equipped with an electric motor 64 hp (47 kW) and 180 Nm of torque, for 160 km range, we will see in Italy this year in the first series that will be delivered as a company car.

The result obtained by the "i-MiEV - C-Zero - ion" was four stars. The tests, held to emphasize those responsible NCAP, which were the same cars undergo "conventional" gasoline and diesel: a frontal impact, side impact by another car against a pole, for adult occupant protection and children, pedestrians, the presence of stability control ESC.

With one difference: as an electric vehicle, particular attention was paid to its impact absorption in the parts of the car body to protect the lithium batteries (which in this model are arranged in the floor). These should not be crushed, and the flow of current must stop immediately with the impact.

The test found that the battery has remained intact, no sparks were formed, and the risk of fire is virtually absent. Overall, the I-MiEV - C-Zero - ion showed a final score of four stars. The protection offered to adult passengers was 73%, safety for children (baby passengers to 18 months and 3 years) was 78% protection for pedestrians in the event of a collision at low speed, 48%; a 86% security has been given to equipment on board.

It has a little 'disappointed crash test which has been brought Dacia Duster. The small SUV Romania's Renault group, in fact, received three stars: the worst result among the models tested on this occasion. Against a good protection for adult passengers and children (74% and 78%), in fact, have weighed a bit 'low scores for the safety of pedestrians (28%) and active safety equipment board (29%).

All other models tested in NCAP crash test achieved the 5 star. This is the BMW X1, ix20 Hyundai, Nissan and Mitsubishi ASX Juke. The BMWX1 reported the following scores: 87% of adults, children 86%, 64% pedestrians, 71% of active safety equipment. Hyundai ix20: adult occupant protection: 89% Children: 85%; pedestrians: 64%; active safety: 71%.

Mitsubishi ASX: adult passengers: 86% Children: 78%; pedestrians: 60%; active safety: 71%. Nissan Juke: adult passengers: 87% Children: 81%; pedestrians: 41%; active safety: 71%.
