GTÜ testing season tires with low rolling resistance

The Society for Technical Supervision (GTÜ) compared seven brands of tires 205/55 R16 91 V. The balancing act between optimized rolling resistance and safety in wet weather creates only one of the test candidates, Continental Sport Contact 2 Rolling resistance plays with steadily rising fuel prices for motorists an increasingly important role.

But for some eco-tires, the safety margins remain especially in wet conditions on the track. Multifunctional properties of the tires are usually underdeveloped. This is the result of the joint summer tire test of the standards authority and the Auto Club Europa (ACE). Winner with a grade of "highly recommended" took into consideration all evaluation criteria for the summer tires Continental Sport Contact 2 (296 € for four tires).

A decisive factor for this was the higher weight, which have assigned the GTÜ tester's security properties. Also, the Pirelli P7 Cinturato (312 €) was a "highly recommended" and took a "safe-rounder" number two. The Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response (288 €) landed in the test rankings with a "recommended" on a good third place.

Classified as "recommended" and the Finnish Nokian tire make V (336 €) was. This tire was ranked fourth Only because of its relatively good safety properties reached the Bridgestone Turanza ER 300 Ecopia (328 €) or a "recommended" and so came on 5th place The Michelin Energy Saver (348 €) and the Goodyear Effecient Grip (288 €) landed on the last two seats and won only a "conditionally recommended".

The GTÜ advises all motorists to rely when choosing tires not only on information from the manufacturer, because not everyone rolling resistance "eco-tires" lives up to the advertising.
