KTM 990 SMT: ABS for the second generation

The KTM 990 SMT found a considerable market success since it was first presented in 2009: now the second generation of this supermoto for long trips is even more refined and innovative. Maintaining the basic qualities of 990, we gave the 2011 model KTM decisive breakthrough, a new anti-lock braking system designed specifically for the SMT to ensure a perfect braking under all conditions.

The R & D center has studied every detail of KTM to test the reaction of the new tires and braking system to study the just distribution of static and dynamic weight. The setting of the suspension has been revised, all steps which led to the development of the new 990 SMT 2011 with ABS.

The new anti-lock braking system has been developed completely from scratch to optimize the deceleration in all conditions without compromising the quality of sports SMT. The ABS system Bosch double circuit affects the total weight of the bike for one kilogram. In the event of sudden braking, the system checks the pressure on the brakes and prevents the quick release.

At the same time, a sophisticated detection system helps avoid the dreaded tipping effect of the excessive rise of the rear wheel. The ABS does not work under normal driving conditions but only comes into operation in risky situations. Available in three colors Orange, Black and White, the new SMT will be on sale from March to 13,000 euro, including VAT but without registration.
