It was 2000 when a small but sporty car heir of almost 50 years was previewed at the Paris Motor Show and then to Birmingham. That car is the new BMW MINI era, a "sportivetta" refined much like a kart that in little more than a decade has not only evolved, but has literally multiplied in a family of cars that now has 4 models , waiting for the fifth (the concept Paceman).

This continues to rise today adds another important piece to the publication of the first gallery of images and technical data of the new supercharged 2.0-liter diesel engine and 143 hp, which will be presented formally at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show (3-13 March). The new engine will be fitted to all the MINI family consists of the three-door version, Clubman, Convertible and Countryman rubbing the initials SD and Cooper became the top of the line engine with that of sister petrol Cooper S.

Heavy only 44.8 kg, the new engine uses an aluminum base, a variable geometry turbo and common rail direct injection system of last generation (1,600 bar). The unit is coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox, but an option can now also choose a more comfortable six-speed automatic. This engine is distinguished for its excellent qualities immediately economies that are supported by systems such as Brake Energy Regeneration, the Stop & Start, shift light and the optimal electromechanical power steering, and to limit emissions and comply with the law € 5 was adopted as standard particulate filter and an oxidation catalyst.

The adoption of these technologies has enabled a great performance-consumption which results according to official data reported by the House for the MINI Cooper SD in an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.2 seconds, top speed of 215 km / h and an average consumption of 4.3l/100km. The heaviest SD Mini Cooper Clubman accelerates from 0 instead of 100 km / h in 8.6 seconds, top speed is unchanged and consumption stood at 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers, while the Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.7 seconds, goes up to 210 km / h top speed and average fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100km.

Separate discussion for the version Countryman Cooper SD, which can be combined with the simple to the most sophisticated front-wheel drive or full MINI All4. The benefits speak for an acceleration of 9.3 seconds (9.4 All4 Countryman) and a maximum speed of 198 km / h (195 km / h All4), while the recorded consumption of 4.6 l/100km (4, Countryman 9l/100km All4).

Aesthetically, the Cooper MINI SD differs from other sports for some details from the connotation that the in common with her sister petrol Cooper S. The body of the car as aerodynamic gains because many details of the slot in the bonnet, side skirts, front splitter and air inlets, positioned on the rear spoiler and dual chrome exhaust center.

After debuting in Geneva, the range SD Cooper coming onto the market in the spring.
