Porsche 918 coupe in the study

In an interview reported by Autoblog eg, Wolfgang Durheimer has revealed an interesting perspective for the future of Porsche. In recent months, in fact, have chased rumors of the debut of a 918 coupe, later revealed to be the 918 RSR concept unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show and the upcoming European debut in Geneva.

The Spyder 918 will become instead a unique hybrid model of a limited edition series. According to statements Durheim, however, the chassis and V8 engine, with the exception of the hybrid system could be used to create a coupe variant of the series, to be offered on the market as a direct challenger to Ferrari and McLaren MP4-12C 458.

With the arrival of the 918 Spyder, in fact, will create a large "space" in the lists between it and the next 911 Turbo, which could be filled from this brand new model, not to be confused with the hypothesized Panamera GT, heir to the 928, aimed at a totally different type of customer.

It would, for Porsche, a very important challenge, both for the internal competition between the most extreme 911 and the 918 coupe, and for the choice of technical approach to competition, with a mid-engine V8. Hard to know whether the project will really developed, given the amount of news that the German brand has decided to churn over the coming years: the baby Boxster 4-cylinder to Cajun.
