Seat Alhambra 2.0 TDI CR DPF DSG: quality and convenience

New and above all more Volkswagen. Replaces the old MPV Seat (and eternal: the market has held for almost fifteen years) and makes a leap forward in quality and also in the image of this large SUV. The new Alhambra has grown in length (4.85 meters the current) and width (1.90), while it was lowered (1.72).

The result is a cabin that seems to have a little 'less wide (but is an illusion, for example, the space for luggage in the configuration of 7 was 256 liters, 267 liters of now), but the line is more elusive Sporty, then aerodynamically favorable (the drag coefficient Cx of 0.29, that of a sedan).

Three engines. A 1.4 turbo gasoline direct injection turbodiesel with 150 hp and all two liters, but with two power levels: 140 hp (agile, Viacava and savings) and 170 hp (exuberant and athletic). The entire range has declined in two versions (Reference, with five-seat cabin configuration and Style, seven seats standard).

On the Style you can have the standard dual-clutch gearbox DSG. To specify that the 170 hp turbo-diesel is only offered in setting and top with the gear "automatic" six-speed transmission. The choice was almost inevitable. The New Alhambra is on sale for almost six months and during that time the Italians who have bought this "monovolumone" have opted for a two-liter turbodiesel with 140 horses in setting style, or the one with seven seats in three rows.

This is not some mass of a car, speak in Seat Alhambra as their "flagship", but compared to the (shot) competition, Seat has big beautiful, interesting cards to play. First the dynamic behavior. Ben planted on all four wheels (on Style are standard 16-inch alloy wheels), the Spanish is not above extensions considerable speed and accelerations.

With the pin of the speedometer stuck on the 200 km / h curves are faced with great ease and counter a broad range encountered on highways. Lying decidedly modest and discreet silence on board the van that this asset brings to the table. When the curves are approaching and the road becomes more tortuous, the dynamic characteristics remain high.

Certainly you can not ask the Alhambra agility of a sports car, but also in the mountains not doing badly. Good brakes, powerful and with a good "bite". The change of copy which we drove was the best dual-clutch DSG in Volkswagen. And the Alhambra is offered (up to end of March) as a standard accessory.

A great opportunity, because with this change the minivan Spanish-German reaches a high level of comfort and ride it becomes very pleasant. Moreover, with the DSG, may have the option to "manual" and you can use the lever that is placed in front of the paddle wheel. As for life on board, to remember the system to "eliminate" the chairs do not need.

It was called "easy fold and seats, with a fast and maneuver effortlessly end up in the floor. In practice, the comfrot and versatility in the cabin of the space are two other interesting features of this vehicle. The large SUV do not collect more than the consensus that has accompanied the birth (plus or minus 1985) to five years ago.

Today crossover between SUV and exterior dimensions smaller, but high habitability, the market for this segment decreased by a lot. However, the new Alhambra, the desires of the Seat, should play in our country, a central role in this part of the market. The objective is to achieve more or less a thousand pieces per year (approximately 10% of the total).

Difficult task but not impossible, will probably support the version with four-wheel drive and five-seater that will be presented in Geneva. With this solution, the Alhambra will take on some features of crossover (type that today is the most popular) which will be increasingly supported equipment of the four-wheel drive minivan that seats six and comes on the Italian market early next winter.

As regards, finally, the price of this Seat, he remember the version input (motor gasoline) costs, keys in hand, € 28,500, the trial version costs about 33 000 €.
