Volkswagen Golf Variant TWINDRIVE

Volkswagen and the six partners involved in the "Fleet in electric mobility studies" have launched the new phase of the project, which runs out in the launch of the Golf Variant 20 TWINDRIVE powered hybrid operation EREV. This program has a deadline of the 2013/2014, when it is introduced to the industry's first zero-emission car, the daughter of a multi-annual development that finds its origin in the first hybrid vehicles (Audi Q5, Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg) introduced by the German group.

The Golf Variant TWINDRIVE uses a hybrid platform EREV composed by an electric motor (65 kW) and 1.4 TSI (40 hp). The latter functions as a Range Extender and supports the electric module, the one in charge of moving the wheels, to ensure the necessary traction. Then there are a single speed gearbox and a clutch to connect the two engines.

The benefits are significant: it gives something in terms of acceleration 0-100 km / h (12 seconds) and speed (170 km / h, 120 in EV mode) but you retrieve consuming just 2.1 liters per hundred kilometers and emitting 49 grams of CO2. The overall range amounts to 90 km. The hybrid system has three modes of use.

In E-Drive electric motor only works while the 1.4 TSI is disconnected, then they work together, although the 1.4 occurs only above 50 km / h acceleration is required or if more decisive, in the third mode the batteries are recharged. Also of note is intended to double their choice accumulators: ten vehicles using lithium batteries, nickel, cobalt and aluminum, while the remaining ten modules are equipped with lithium, nickel, manganese and cobalt.
